Is a Frisco Animal Shelter the “Next Big Thing?”
We hate to be negative, but an animal shelter and adoption center hasn’t been a priority for Frisco, TX leaders since Frisco’s Pet Project started back 2018. On February 10th and 11th, Frisco, Texas leaders will be meeting for their Winter Work Sessions where they’ll discuss and create their “top-ten priorities” for the year. Will an animal shelter be the “next big thing?”
Many Frisco residents, old and new alike, have no idea there isn’t a city shelter. It is hard to believe, with a population of over 220K people and tens of thousands of pets, the City of Frisco still refuses to offer this public service to its citizens. They continue to burden an already overcrowded and over-extended county shelter in far north McKinney. To add, Frisco chooses to ignore the State’s alarming euthanasia rate and continues to support a business that ships thousands of puppies across state lines to sell at Frisco Petland.
For years, Frisco residents have been personally and publicly asking the Mayor, Council, and City Management to become a more humane community with little success. As one of the State’s fastest growing cities, we have found it difficult to get the word out, and we need your help! Could you do any of the following?
- Speak up during Frisco’s Citizen Input at any 1st and 3rd Tuesday City Council meeting at approximately 7:30 PM AND during the upcoming Frisco Council Winter Work Sessions, Feb. 10th or 11th during Citizen Input at the start of each meeting after roll call
- Email Frisco’s Mayor, City Council, and Staff and tell them you want a local shelter in Frisco and for them to finally take action and enact a more humane animal ordinance that prevents the sale of puppy mill animals here
- Add your name to Frisco’s Pet Project and Sign Their PETition to Keep Frisco Pets in Frisco and let Frisco leaders know you too support this cause at http://friscospetproject.org/say-yes-to-pets-form/
- Like or Follow FPP’s Facebook page @FriscosPetProject and their new Twitter page @FriscoTXPets and then Share their cause to show their strength in numbers
- Email Frisco’s Pet Project at FPPTeam@friscospetproject.org to get more dates, times and locations and ask how you can do more
Any one of these steps could help Frisco and Collin and Denton County residents and and potentially save the lives of pets throughout the community. Let’s help Keep Frisco Pets in Frisco.
