The Numbers Are Scary!

Charlie Brown says “The numbers don’t add up!”

According to the American Veterinary Medical Association’s pet owner calculator and based on Frisco’s people population estimated at 185,435—

  • Frisco’s Dog Population is approximately 41,652
  • Frisco’s Cat Population is approximately 45,503
  • Frisco’s lost, stray, foster, and other tamed animal population is unknown

Frisco rests in Collin County, Texas with an estimated people population of 969,603 and over 200,000 dogs and another 200,000 cats.

Currently, Frisco Animal Services (FAS) doesn’t have a holding facility and relies on seven full-time employees and six service trucks to house and transport Frisco pets to the McKinney, Texas shelter on a daily basis.

Collin County Animal Services (CCAS) is only 10,000 square feet and can house up to 80 cats and approximately 120 dogs if they are smaller and able to be housed in multiples per enclosure at a time. CCAS services 13+ cities including Frisco, McKinney, Celina, Prosper, Anna, and its nearby unincorporated communities. The average number of cats taken in daily is five and the average number of dogs is nine.

According to the National Council of Pet Population Study and Policy and National Humane Society, a family pet is lost every two seconds and one out three pets are lost during their lifetime.

If your pet is lost in Frisco, and you have exhausted all local efforts such as posting on social media, handing out flyers, and calling Frisco Animal Services, you have to leave Frisco to search for your pet. Why?
