Frisco Will Not Ban Retail Sales of Animals
The City of Frisco is doing it again. If you recall, City staff back in June 2019 and with little advance notice, added an agenda item to extend the City’s contract with Collin County Animal Services for five more years. At the Council meeting, Frisco residents and Frisco’s Pet Project supporters asked for a delay to further explore the lengthy contract and look at other options for a rescue center or added space, but they were denied extra time and the ordinance passed. This Tuesday, January, 21st, it is going to happen again to you and your Stop Frisco Animal Mill Sales pet advocates.
Frisco City Council plans to vote on changes to an animal ordinance that will NOT be a ban on retail animal sales. After months of discussion and examination of evidence of neglect and consumer deception, the City is presenting a second draft of the City’s Chapter 14 Animals – Definitions, Protection of Animals, and Dangerous Animal to Council. Advocates are asking the city to postpone the vote so that they have time to review the final ordinance draft before it goes up for vote. Unless the extension is granted, Council will likely vote to make this incomplete and unsatisfactory draft law. The ordinance will only apply stricter rules and record-keeping for stores like Petland that will only prolong the abuse and will be a huge burden on time and resources for Frisco Animal Services, costing taxpayers and wasting money that could be put towards rescuing and adopting animals.
These Frisco pet advocates are asking you to join them and please come Tuesday evening and tell Frisco City Council you are disappointed that they are protecting the puppy mill industry and not supporting their citizens and animals of Frisco. You may speak during Public Input.
Just a couple of miles away, The Colony City Council is also voting on their animal ordinance Tuesday evening, and the Colony will essentially BAN retail pet sales by way of zoning. Why can’t Frisco do the same? Also, tune in to CBS News at 4 pm on Monday, Jan 20th, for a story on the Frisco animal mill problem. Some of the Frisco Petland victims will be telling their stories.
When is it enough? When will Frisco pets and pet-owners become one of the City of Frisco’s top ten priorities? When will the City of Frisco implement an Animal Advisory Board? When? When enough of us speak up for those that can’t! Thank you kind people!
